Why Are Conveying Systems So Very Popular in Material Handling?

Conveying systems are the part of material handling equipment which is used to transport items and materials from one place to another. It is a material handling equipment for transferring or moving products from one region to another. When it comes to the products or items, they may be food, raw materials, chemicals or any material to be shifted to another unit for further processing or manufacturing. Conveyor systems are used in the realm of packing and unpacking, goods dispatch and production.

Conveying systems may be of various kinds. They include belt conveyor, overhead conveyor, pendulum elevators, food conveyor, etc. The type of conveyor system you choose for the application relies on the manufacturing procedure. Such systems are powered by air pressure and motor. Among all kinds of conveyor systems, overhead conveyor is the most popular. Its main usage is goods assembly and distribution. You may say that conveying systems are not priced cheaply but the cost of labor for manually transferring the goods is very high. Compared to the cost of manpower, conveying system is cost effective. By using conveying systems, you can save on the floor space, prevent any chance of accident.

The various uses of conveyor systems

Conveyor systems are used in several places and they are a common sight in trash-yards, airports and others. In fact, they are used wherever goods have to be transported. With the conveyor system, the task of goods transportation becomes simple and convenient. On the other hand, industrial conveyors are designed in a manner that they can withstand extreme weather, heavy loads and can also move in any of the directions.

It helps to avoid manual feeding

If the conveyor system was absent, you would have to carry the goods manually. It would involve hiring manpower and labor which would cost a lot of money. Hiring labor and manpower has its own set of challenges. We can say that human labor is not that efficient and so you need to choose industrial conveyor system. The commercial conveyors are employed in variety of industries such as manufacturing, food and pharmaceuticals.

The kinds of conveyors you should know about

Conveyors can be availed in different specifications, shapes and sizes. The choice of conveyor changes as per the industry in which it is used. The common kinds of conveyors are mentioned below:

  1. Chain belt conveyor is used to carry products in huge volumes. They are used extensively on work floors and in the transportation of waste materials.

  2. Steel belt conveyor is another popular conveyor system which may be either steel apron or piano hinge. It is such a system which can carry huge weights or serious weights. You may use it for heavy feeder application while the belt conveyor can transport up to 50 tons of weight in an hour.

  3. Slide bed conveyor is used wherever chain belt is weak or steel belt is too much heavy. When it comes to the weight capacity, it may be between 1 ton and 20 tons maximum weight.

  4. MRF Sorting Line is meant to cater to the individual needs. It is not that standardized and carries components like chain belt, steel belt and slider belt.

Merits of using conveying system

In the realm of material handling, conveying system is extremely popular. There is no need to handle heavy load manually when you can use conveying systems. Goods whether large or small can be shifted easily. Goods can load or unload for unlimited number of times. It is best meant for larger factories. Materials may be shifted from one floor to another. It also keeps a check over the speed at which goods are moved. Wherever materials have to be shifted, conveyors can be used. It is used in factories, industrial units, recycle centers, bottling plants, etc. A lot of human manual tasks may be automated with the use of conveying system.
