Top Things to Consider in Bathroom Vanity

Buying a new bathroom vanity requires a careful consideration as this contributes to the overall look and design of your bathroom. Whether you are planning to renovate an existing bathroom or looking to buy for your new house, selecting a vanity requires careful planning depending on the space available, the desired design and the overall look for the bathroom.

These cabinets come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. People today are investing in expensive and stylish vanities as they want it to be very unique and the available range of options is also extensive. The most common vanities are freestanding ones, but wall hung units are becoming popular these days giving the bathroom a more modern look and a contemporary design. There are a number of things you would need to consider before selecting the right unit for your bathroom. Let us discuss what those things are.

1. The Right Size

Bathroom Vanities come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes and thus finding the right size for your bathroom is very important as it would add to the overall look and beauty. Also, keep in mind that these come with one or two sink options and choosing the latter would mean it would occupying a much wider space. So before considering the purchase, measuring the available space would give an idea of what size would suit better for your bathroom. Also, it is good to consider the position of the doors so as not to obstruct the opening and closing once the unit is installed.

2. Mounting and Placement

Bathroom vanity units come in different mounting options; freestanding, wall mount, and corner. Freestanding units are the standard ones and are most common and come in a wide range of size and storage options, depending on the available bathroom space. The wall mount or the floating units are more modern but do not provide much storage compared to the freestanding units because of the mounting. The corner unit, as the name suggests, is mounted in the corner of two adjoining walls. These occupy very little space and are best suited for bathrooms which do not have much space.

Placement of these units is another critical aspect. The location of the available plumbing points and the floor plan will help in determining where the vanity unit needs to be fixed. Also determining the height and width of the unit will give an overall idea of the size of the mirrors needed and where it would be positioned along with the other toilet fixtures such as the light and the bathroom medicine cabinet.

3. Materials

Careful consideration needs to be given to the type of materials for the bathroom vanity as it needs to last long in an environment that is usually humid and wet. Although the base material is wood, it is necessary for it to have a veneer coating to last for a long time. Also, the corners of the wood should be sealed and lacquered properly to make it more water resistant. The sink is another unit that has the large variety of shapes and sizes to choose from. Whichever shape you choose, make sure that it would fit properly on the vanity unit. The countertop is usually marbled stone or ceramic giving it a luxurious look. Choose the right color that goes well with the overall look of the bathroom.

Many today consider purchasing their Bathroom Vanities and other fixtures on online stores as these are seemingly cheaper compared to the prices in the local department store. Online shopping gives an advantage of comparing our product and its price on different websites, aiding in saving a great deal of money.
