Taking Measures to Reduce Plumbing Repair

Do you frequently need the service of a plumber to fix the overflowing of the sink in the kitchen or the wash basin? Well, we all face the same problem with our pipelines in the home, either leaked or clogged or damaged due to some blockage or due to high use. After all, you cannot restrict anyone to wash their hands or the vegetables. However, by giving it some thought and taking a few safety measures we can prolong the duration of maintenance and can restrict the plumber to carry on the plumbing repair frequently.

Measures That Can Be Taken

You can do many of these maintenances yourself to avoid the disaster and minimize the repairing bills that burn the pockets.

  1. Drains and tubs are blocked and clogged by hair. Be it in your washroom or the kitchen; hairs get accumulated in the tub drains clogging the pipeline and ultimately damaging the system. You should remove the cap of the drain at least once in a month and remove all hairs. Using a sink plunger gives a more effective solution to this problem. You can also pour hot water to free the pipeline from clogging.

  2. Using garbage disposal is an excellent method that is fitted between the tap and the sinks drain under the kitchen sink. They shred food materials that are wasted into small pieces to enable them to pass through the kitchen plumbing pipeline. However, they can often malfunction due to overload making the blades jammed and resulting in an overflowing sink. Frequent cleaning of the blades by opening the garbage disposal with an Allen key and freeing the blades can reduce the cost of plumbing repairs bills.

  3. Using a traditional sink plunger regularly in your kitchen cleans the pipeline from any jams and forces out any obstacles that might clog it otherwise. After using the plunger for a couple of times repeatedly if you can pour some baking soda and vinegar in the cap, the chemical reaction that happens melts the clog and clears the pipeline.  Using these methods, you can avoid your costly plumbing repairs by a professional.

  4. Another major problem is running toilet flush. Often you may find that water is gushing into your commode even without pressing the flush knob or the flush is overflowing. In case of overflows adjust the fill height. Using for a long time can unscrew the overflow system allowing the valve to remain open. Regular checking and the fill height just turning the screw with your fingers can prevent overflowing. The flush handle that is connected with the chain gets jammed with sedimentation allowing water to drain out continuously. Clean the chain and the flush handle of the sediments and the plumbing repairs on your own.

  5. If you see that your water softener is no more softening your water, then it is time to clean the resin bed. This type of plumbing repair can be done easily by you without calling a plumber. You should clean the resin bed at least twice a year using a resin bed cleaner. This is readily available with the water softener dealers. The water should be clean after settling in for some time, and there should be no sedimentation of iron. This will indicate that the resin bed has been adequately cleaned and the water will again turn soft.

With a little precaution, you can avoid the costly repairs by professionals for any of your minor plumbing problems. Doing plumbing repairs on your own saves lot of money and time. You need to do the precautionary maintenance at regular intervals to keep the lumber away.
