A Simple Guide to Metal Fabricators

Metal fabrication is a process of taking raw materials such as steel or aluminium and processing them to turn into an object which can be used in the assembly process of other items. There are many different types of processes of metal fabrication, a few of them are mentioned below.

Types of Metal Fabrication Processes

  1. Cutting - Metals are cut using a saw, laser, water jets, plasma torches or other equipment.

  2. Punching - This is a process of creating a hole of a desired shape and size on a metal object. The hole is literally ‘punched’ into the metal material.

  3. Folding - Metal pieces are folded on to themselves to create different shapes. A brake press is commonly used for this process; however, there are times when two different kinds of metal fabricators are used to create more complex, folded shapes of metal.

  4. Stamping - Stamping process is very similar to the punching process, however, in this metal fabrication process, the punched portion of the metal is not removed or discarded. Instead, the punched portion of the metal is left behind to form a sort of raised portion on the body of the metal.

  5. Welding - Welding is simply the process of joining two different parts of a metal together.

  6. Shearing - The process of shearing a piece of metal involves cutting the metal into a long piece of sheet.

  7. Machining - This metal fabrication process basically deals with the removal of a metal from any material. Drills are manufactured using this kind of metal fabricators.

Of course, there are many more types of metal fabrication processes, as new processes and new kinds of metal fabricators are developed by skilled experts regularly.

A Few Advantages of Metal Fabricators

  1. The metals which are processed and created with metal fabricators are much stronger, sturdier,  more durable and long lasting as compared to other materials such as plastic. This makes metal fabrication one of the most popular processes for manufacturing. Metal fabrication process creates a kind of an object which is much more resistant to heat and weather changes as compared to other materials. Where other materials would easily degrade in high temperature, metals have a higher melting point and can thus last longer.

  2. Using metal for fabrication reduces the total cost of production and is a more economical method, especially for those industries which are dealing with high volume lines of production.

  3. Metal fabrication produces products which can be used for all kinds of heavy duty activities. Ladders, drills, and many other kinds of products which are used in the assembly line are manufactured with the help of metal fabricators. There are different processes of metal fabrication used, and newer processed are being developed so that the entire process of fabricating metal is easier, and more cost-effective to the industry.

  4. Metal fabrication, as compared to other processes such as plastic fabrication produces materials which are more long- lasting. Another great advantage of using metal for fabrication is the fact that metals are very easily malleable. This means that metals can be easily bent, melted and manipulated into different shapes and sizes as per the client’s specifications. By using the right kind of metal fabricator, a company can create products as per specific requirements of their clients. It is also more economical and eco-friendly and at the same time more affordable method when compared to other fabrication tools and materials used.

Metal fabricators can be used to process and manufacture different kinds of metal products and can be used in different industries.
